SaveAround Community Conversation

Vol. 21 (08) | 04/02/2021

These groups are not necessarily associated with a school, but are active in the area.  Many times they are a non-profit or local organization that needs money yearly, but is volunteer run with lots of turn-over.  Sometimes they have a board of directors or volunteer group that heads up their efforts that includes fundraising.

Some of these non-traditional groups may include:
  • Little leagues for baseball and softball
  • Clubs
  • Organizations hosting summer camp
  • Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
  • Church youth groups

Once you are in with a group find out when they have board elections and a rough estimate of their yearly plans.  Sign-ups, registration, timeline, age group, etc.  It is helpful if you know who the board members are and if they are in need of fundraising or assistance in this area.

For example:
  • Local little league - registration starts in January through March; season begins end of March through May; tournaments in June

  • Church youth groups - most likely will have various activities throughout the year (summer camp, winter ski trip, overnight lock-ins, etc).

  • Summer camps - funds for field trips to various venues plus supplies and snacks

  • Travel baseball - ongoing fundraising needs, weekend tournaments, lots of travel and expenses  (sometimes they have sponsors, but need to be supplemented with fundraisers, too)

In future issues of the Community Conversation, in depth discussions about each of the non-traditional groups will be covered along with suggestions and ideas on how to find them and reach them to assist with their fundraising efforts.

Resigns for 2022

As you are calling on groups to re-sign them for Fall 2021 or Spring 2022, it is important that you mark if it is a RETURNING (re-signed group) or a NEW group.  This helps us keep the records clean and eliminates setting up duplicate accounts in the system.  Additionally, if you have a returning group that uses Saint vs. St. be sure to list it just as it ran last year so we can search in that manner.  (Saint Ella School vs. St. Ella School).  If you have any questions about re-signs or need assistance, please email the team:  grouprelations@savearound.com.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

In talking with some of the ICs, it became apparent that teamwork really does make the dreamwork.  Independent Contractors need to be out selling, seeing customers and moving products.  Paperwork, book shipments, and all the other details need to be supported by the team who is behind the scenes.

For example:

  • A surgeon doesn’t send out invoices for services - they are performing heart surgery.

  • A lawyer doesn’t mail out subpoenas and requests for court - they are litigating in court.

  • The head of Amazon isn’t out delivering packages - they are making sure the staff has what they need to get your package delivered on time to you.

The same holds true for fundraising reps. Don’t get bogged down in the details. Make sure you are out seeing as many customers and prospects as possible.  Always ask for referrals whenever possible. If you need assistance with contract agreements or book shipments, please contact the sales team and we’ll be glad to assist you.  Email us: sales@savearound.com
