Believe it or not, today February 9th marks the end of the first six weeks of 2024 with approximately 16 weeks remaining until the first of June.
It’s a good point to ask yourself “how are things going?” thus far as you are launching into the Spring ‘24 season. Here are a few questions to ask and measure your progress so
far:
How many groups have you kicked off this far?
How many groups will you kick off between now and May 1st?
Have
you signed up any groups to run a Sprint (60 minute) sale?
Are you updating your calendar with year end dates and activities for your schools?
What is the game plan for the remaining 16 weeks of school?
Keep in mind that you have approximately 70-75 days of school left to start sales and kickoff groups. You will have closures like Spring Break, Good Friday before the Easter holiday, teacher inservice/stockpile days, not to mention inclement weather. So you are going to have to hit it hard and make some things happen to finish strong this
Spring.
While finishing strong for Spring, you also need to simultaneously look at signing a few summer groups as well. Youth Sports, Church Youth Groups, Day cares, etc. are all viable groups that need money and will start fundraising soon. You need to get that hit list out and start working it right away. We are already nearing mid February and that will only leave March, April and a little bit of May to work your business.
Old and New Merchants
Don’t forget to go through your current 2024 book and mark any merchants that need to come out. Make a list of new businesses in your area that need to be approached to go into the 2025 edition. The production team is working on the 2025 books NOW and time is of the essence. If you have any merchants that need to be added or deleted, send that

February celebrates Black History Month and here are a few facts for your next appearance on Jeopardy:
Black history month began as a week nearly a century ago.
Gerald Ford officially decreed Black History month in 1976 as an official observation.
Harriet Tubman saved countless lives of enslaved persons through the Underground Railroad.
She was also the first black woman to lead an armed military operation in the U.S.
In 1967 Thurgood Marshall was confirmed by the U.S. Senate becoming the first black person to serve on the supreme court.
In 1940, Hattie McDaniel was the first person nominated and won an Academy Award for her performance as “Mammy” in “Gone with the Wind”. In 1991 Whoopi Goldberg won the best actress Oscar for her role in “Ghost” and Halle Berry won the same award in 2002 for “Monster’s Ball”.
Rock n Roll Hall of Fame welcomed legendary black musicians including Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, Robert Johnson, Little Richard, & Jimmy Yancey. The first black woman inducted was Aretha Franklin in 1987.
Martin Luther King, Jr. a civil rights leader who was known for his “I have a dream” speech, was honored with a holiday bearing his name in 1983.
Activist Rosa Parks is best known for her role in the Montgomery, AL bus boycott in 1955. She sat in one of the front seats on a bus in an area typically reserved for
white passengers. This led to desegregation of public transportation nationwide.
Vermont was the first state to ban slavery and not only abolished this practice but also secured voting rights for black men. Mississippi was the last to ban slavery 148 years after Congress passed the initial resolution.
Juneteeth was established as a federal holiday in 2021 which commemorates June 19, 1865 the day that legalized slavery officially ended in Texas, the last of the confederate states to abolish the practice.
