Vol. 22  (05) | 02/04/2022

The Winter Olympic games will be hosted in Beijing and athletes from all over the world will come there to compete and hopefully take home a medal or two for their country and themselves.  There will be 109 events in 7 sports:  biathlon, bobsledding, curling, ice hockey, luge, skating (figure and speed), and skiing (snowboarding and ski jumping).  Figure Skating is the oldest winter sport in Olympic history as it was initially added to the summer games in 1908 before transitioning to the winter games in 1924.

These games will be the culmination of years and years of blood, sweat and tears for these athletes.  For some it will be their debut into the olympics with perhaps more to come while for others it will be their final attempt to leave their mark in the history books and to capture a medal or break a record. Either way, it is TIME TO SHINE.  This is their appointed time to be here on this Earth, to compete at one of the highest levels imaginable, and to “bring home the gold”.  Now is the time.

Have you asked yourself lately why this is YOUR time to shine?

Why are you the best fundraising consultant in the area?
Why are you the go-to for helping groups raise incredible amounts of money?
Why do you have repeat customers year after year after year?
Why are referrals easy to gather with usually just a quick ask?
Why are you the go-to person in the office?
Why are you continue getting the job done and hitting the deadlines?

Here are a few reassuring realities:

* Make a GREAT first impression - you only get to impress someone FIRST once.
* Say what you are going to do and do what you say.  Simple enough.
* Follow up and follow through - 2 very important steps in the process.
* Hang out in the details - while tiresome they can mean all the difference to a client.
* Ordinary people do the extra things to make ordinary things extraordinary all the time.
* Help someone out even if it isn’t your job or wasn’t on your list today.
* Slow down a bit - going too slow in crowds is better than going too fast.* Smile and breathe.

“Never Say That’s Not My Job”

This statement oozes arrogance and laziness.
Chip in to help with what needs to be done,  even if it’s not your responsibility.
Do what needs to be done or help someone find a solution. Period.
Even when nobody’s watching.

2023 Merchants (old and new)

Take a few minutes and go through one of your sample copies of the market or markets you sell.  If you don’t have a book handy, get online and look at the e-book.
The 2023 books are being prepared as we speak and if there are businesses in the book that have closed we need to update the files.  On the flipside, if there are new businesses that have opened NOW is the time to contact them.  Remember this takes TIME to reach the correct decision maker or person in authority to go through the terms of the contract and coupon requirements.
If you take a few minutes NOW to help identify these things it will help us improve YOUR book and make it easier to sell next Fall.  If you have merchants to be added or removed, please send an email to sales@savearound.com and they can assist with that process.
Gather as much information as you can as this will only help expedite the process. (Contact name, title, email address, cell phone number, address, the best time to reach them, etc.)  So take a few minutes and review the current book and see what updates are needed.  The work you do now will only help improve the book you sell this coming Fall.

Mardi Gras is the French term for Fat Tuesday referring to the carnival events beginning on or after Christian feasts of Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and ending on the day before Ash Wednesday. While this is not a nationally observed holiday throughout the United States, there are a large number of traditionally ethnic French cities and regions that have notable celebrations.  Mardi Gras arrived in North America as a French Catholic tradition with the Le Moyne brothers, who were sent by King Louis XIV to defend France’s claim on the territory of Louisiana which  includes the current U.S. states of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and part of eastern Texas. The first Mardi Gras parade held in New Orleans took place in 1837. These celebrations are part of the basis of the slogan Laissez les bons temps rouler (“let the good times roll”).  Fancy costumes, elaborate parades, and delicious King Cakes are a few favorite parts of this tradition of Mardi Gras.
